What makes a great product? I used to think it was all about features. But after participating in this hackathon, I’ve realised that more than just features, it’s also the value it brings and the vision it carries.
Joining the hackathon, none of us had experience in product management, but we were curious: what does it take to build something people actually want to use?
The Process
Turns out, building a product isn’t plug and play. It’s empathy. It’s design thinking. It’s testing assumptions and iterating fast.
Over the weeks, we speedran through problem statements, built user personas, mapped workflows, and redesigned UI to bring our vision to life. We identified pain points across three key user personas — citizens, businesses, and government officers — and designed solutions tailored to each.
The Lesson
In chasing the big picture, we missed one thing: pitching that value to each persona. The judges were right — vision alone isn’t enough. It needs to connect with users where they are. That’s a lesson I’ll carry forward: a great vision inspires, but real value delivers.
The Result
Team Triple L clinched 1st Runner-Up out of 70+ teams, and I was honoured to receive the Overall Best Speaker Award.
